Basketball in the winter in Hartford has become an invaluable, significant tradition that has been successful with plenty of made baskets during its years of existence. Throughout the very successful past, scores of young athletes have created and developed their skills on the court, all while having fun, while creating lifelong memories with their classmates and friends. Many young athletes play organized youth sports, including basketball, seeking to gain the upper hand and win games against their opponent on the court, but more importantly, these young athletes have been taught by coaches and volunteers that it is not only about winning, but about those cherished lifelong aspects of life they can use on, and off, the court, including kindness, integrity and sportsmanship.
After many years of leadership by the high school coaching staff, the Hartford Council for Recreation agreed in 2020 to bring the sport into its portfolio of successful youth sports. So, families that have been a part of our sports programs for years can attest that when you join our programs, the athlete in your family will always be in good hands. Not only do you get quality coaching, but you also are ensured that the basketball program will be able to prosper and thrive in our community for years to come.
After all, our other programs have utilized proper instructional skills and strong coaching expertise to develop and teach the next generation of student-athletes you will see at the middle school and high school level in the years to come, and this will be no different. This season promises to be another action-packed year full of assists, hard-nosed defense and made shots, and we are eager to have the next generation of youth in Hartford to be a part of this exciting endeavor with us. We invite everyone to join us on the basketball court this year, and if you have a child that is eager to participate in a sport during the winter, look no further than our basketball programs.
